Workplace Drama is Not Unique to Your Company
When I work with leadership teams or cross sections of employees to offer retreats, there seems to be reoccurring challenges common to all that indicate workplace conflict or communication conflict. It doesn't matter if the company is small, large, family owned, government, or non profit. By the time I get the phone call, there’s an elephant in the room but everyone is too afraid to mention it.
Let me Identify the Elephant in the Room
Employees at all levels feel like a loaded gun is about to go off at any time, due to all the stress. Departments work against each other, and directors or managers feel like there is no support from the top with too many telling them what to do without understanding the demands.
The result is people try to cover their butt instead of get the job done; people aren’t sure what the priorities are. Everyone is overwhelmed because there's never enough time and resources are limited.
People talk behind each other’s back, pass the buck and operate in fear and drama.
Where Do We Start?
As difficult as it might seem, a retreat can bring everyone together to clear the air, speak their truth and get in sync with problem solving to bring about better workplace relationships.
I often recommend starting with a retreat because it is more cost effective, and it gives you a clean and clear place to start, whether you want to start with a Mastermind Training Retreat for a cross section of your employees, or you want to offer the Leadership Retreat for your managers, supervisors or directors, the retreat will give you the forum to get it out in the open as well as help you understand your team and the unique challenges of your particular business.
What Happens at a Retreat
A lot happens. Ideas are shared, problems discussed, insights are gained and an easy-to-digest report is developed and distributed to management and everyone who attends the retreat. This document is useful in several ways, which is discussed after the retreat and at the follow up meeting which everyone is invited to attend.
What is equally important is what doesn't happen at the retreat. We don't use Power Point slides or boring lecture and although there is plenty of talk about what is not working, we don't get into who to blame, excuses about why things aren't working, or complaining without seeing the opportunity in the current reality.
The retreat is forum full of straight talk, openness, idea sharing and problem-solving in a non-linear yet facilitated format.
Offering leadership retreats has been one of my most requested programs in 2011 and I want to invite you to inquire about the different types of half day retreats available.
Send me an e-mail or call me at 417.831.1799 so we can set up a time to explore the retreat option for your organization and to answer any questions you might have.
